Barbie's kindness in the movie "Barbie as The Island Princess," wins her the friendship of many.

In her compassion, she also finds the persistence needed to save the animals and the kingdom, and also wins the prince’s love in the process. Ro, played by Barbie, demonstrates the value of friendship at every turn in the movie.

Kindness Wins the Day

Ro was shipwrecked as a child and has grown up on an island, befriended by a red panda, peacock and baby elephant.

After 10 years a prince discovers the island and Ro. He brings her and her friends back to his kingdom, where she shows kindness to the royal monkey by helping her remember skills she had while in the wild. Ro helps a pig scratch a hard to reach place on his back and picks a bird up after it has fallen.

She wins the friendship of everyone with her kind heart, except for the king and a visiting queen. But when the animals in the kingdom develop a mysterious condition, she and her friends from the island are blamed and sent away.

While traveling by boat back to their island, the band of friend decide that despite the chance of imprisonment, the only thing to do is return to the kingdom and make the antidote to save the animals.

She meets opposition, but compassion for the sick animals gives her the strength to confront those who would harm others for their own gain.

Value of Friendship

Due to her isolation on the island, Ro has developed the ability to talk to animals and a few have become as close as family. When Ro leaves the island, the small band of friends accompanies her.

Ro, in return, stays in the greenhouse with her friends, instead of taking a room in the palace.

The youngest in the group fears that Ro will forget about her friends when she makes new friends in the kingdom.

A wonderful song about the heart’s ability to increase its capacity for love is sung by Ro. She reassures her friend that just because someone loves a new friend that does not leave less love for them.

By the end of the movie, Ro has found what she is looking for – answers about who she is and where she is from. She is now ready to set off on life’s next adventure.
