Manny, Diego, Sid, Scrat and Ellie return for more Ice Age fun.

Ice Age 3 – Dawn of the Dinosaurs has several new adventures for the loveable animated characters that have captured the hearts of audiences in the past. First, Ellie (voiced by Queen Latifah) and Manny (voiced by Ray Romano) are expecting their first baby, which has Manny a nervous wreck in anticipation of the new arrival. Second, Diego (voiced by Denis Leary) feels that his time with the group is over and he sets out to find his own way in life. Third, Sid (voiced by John Leguizamo) is jealous of Manny and Ellie and decides he wants his own babies. And fourth, because he garnered so much attention in the first two films even though he did not have a big part, Scrat has a storyline.

Sid is frustrated about not having his own baby and when he comes across what he thinks are three abandoned eggs, he takes them home with the idea of being their dad. The eggs hatch and three baby dinosaurs attach themselves to Sid, whom they think is their mother. Sid thoroughly enjoys the babies, but they cause havoc with the other animals.

A Lost World

When their real mother comes looking for them, she takes not only her three babies, but Sid. The rest of the “herd” goes after her to retrieve Sid. When Diego gets wind that Sid is in trouble, he joins the rescue mission. Even though dinosaurs were supposed to be extinct, there is an underground world where they are thriving, and soon the group is maneuvering through a luscious underground jungle filled with all kinds of creatures they have never seen before.

They come across Buck (voiced by Simon Pegg), a swashbuckling Weasel who offers to escort them through the underground world to find Sid. Buck is the only mammal living in this strange place.

Scrat Finds Love

In the meantime, little Scrat has found something he loves even more than his beloved acorn. Scratte is his female equivalent and she is just as enamored with him. But both their loves of acorns often comes between them. Scrat and Scratte’s relationship is filled with tender moments, between Scrat and Scratte, Scrat and the acorn, and Scratte and the acorn. But in the end, the two discover their affection for each other is the main thing.

DVD and Blu-ray Packs

Ice Age 3 – Dawn of the Dinosaurs comes in three different packages. There is a 3-disc BD, DVD, and Digital Copy with a lot of bonus features. There is also a single DVD of the film. And there is a “Scrat Pack” Double DVD Pack, with several Scrat shorts. Also in the bonus features is featurette on making the jungle sequence, a featurette on Scrat and Scratte, a feature on Buck, a feature on how the animators designed the dinosaurs and all the animation in the lost world, and a music video.

The filmmakers are considering more Ice Age movies in the future. The characters are fan favorites, and with the addition of Scratte and the new baby mammoth named Peaches, there are more stories that could be coming in the years ahead.

Ice Age (2002), Ice Age 2: The Meltdown (2006), and Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs (2009) are all available on DVD.
