Veggietales is finally going to tell us the truth about Santa. No, they are not going to come out and say that Rudolph and pals don't exist. What they will do is introduce a little reality into the mythical jolly old elf who delivers toys to the good girls and boys of the world. Well, as much reality as characters played by vegetables can add.

It's Christmas time and the little veggies are excited that Santa will soon be visiting their homes to drop of their veggie toys. They waltz around town singing the virtue of receiving. Junior Asparagus was given a gold coin and it's burning a hole in his pocket. What can he get his self?
The group of veggie kids runs into Bob the Tomato and Larry the Cucumber setting up some Christmas decorations. Appalled at the children's selfish attitudes, the dynamic vegetable duo proceed to tell them the tale of their hero, veggie style.
VeggieTales Version of Saint Nicholas' Story
Bob and Larry transport us from snowy streets to sunny Greece, where we meet a young pepper named Nick. Nick is a self absorbed guy like most his age. He doesn't understand why his parents give so much to others in need. Then tragedy strikes.
In his grief, young Nick strikes out to bury memories. Along the way he runs into a nun giving bread to the poor. From her he learns the important lesson about giving to others. Then Nick moves to the north pole, gets some reindeers and elves and flies around the world giving toys to all of the good girls and boys. Ok, maybe not, but Nick does return home and puts to use hat he has learned.
Silly Songs with Larry
Normally there is a Silly Song, usually with Larry the Cucumber, but because this is an important Christmas message, instead there is Helpful Humanitarian Songs with Mr. Lunt. At its core the song is about giving to the least of those.
The song asks for donuts for a doggie. It turns into a silly song after all. The kids will be rolling on the floor as the dog dances around throwing Mr. Lunt.
A Big Idea Christmas
Big Idea has really struck gold with Saint Nicholas - A Story of Joyful Giving. They have other Christmas stories, all of them done well, but this has a different feel to it. There is still the fun and songs and plenty of laughter, but the story strikes to the heart of Christmas on many levels.
Putting a face on Santa is the first thing that kids will see. Then reinforcing the reason why we give on Christmas, because God gave to us the gift of Jesus. It's all tied up with a beautifully done story and great animation.
Saint Nicholas - A Story of Joyful Giving would be a welcome present under any kid's Christmas tree. Through the songs and silly things going on, they will get the story of Saint Nicholas. More importantly they will get the reason why we give and maybe they will want to experience that too.
