VeggieTales latest video, Tomato Sawyer and Huckleberry Larry's Big River Rescue, is using Mark Twain classics to help our kids learn the importance of helping others.
We meet our unlikely heroes, Tomato Sawyer and Huckleberry Larry, as they are homesteading on the banks of the mighty Mississippi. Tom and Huck plan to open their own businesses once they get their land. They dream of Huck’s Jerkyland and Tom’s Tax Preparation, but when a large and mysterious stranger stumbles across their path they have a choice to make. Do they help this stranger out and risk their plans and dreams? Veggie Tales Inspired by the BiblePhil Vischer, VeggieTales co-creator, writes this latest video. He incorporates all of the wit and humor that are trademarks of the VeggieTales series and delivers the timeless message of helping others. It is inspired by James 4:17 which says, “So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin.” “Sometimes not helping someone can be just as bad as actually hurting them,” summarizes Vischer. Bob the Tomato and Larry the Cucumber play the leads. Of course the rest of the cast is filled with various veggies. There are squash, peas, carrots, and other vegetables that appear throughout. Mark Twain is immortalized in Veggie form as the narrator, Clark Wayne, but exactly what vegetable is not obvious. He is green and armless but that’s about the extent of his vegetable appearance. Veggie Twain is a funny addition though and moves the story along without tampering. At least he doesn’t too much. Silly Songs in Big River RescueTomato Sawyer and Huckleberry Larry’s Big River Rescue continues the tradition of the Silly Song with Larry, except Larry takes a bow on this one and it is just a Silly Song. “The Biscuit of Zazzamarandabo” is a zany, funny, crazy, Silly Song and video to match. Written by the ever-talented Andrew Peterson and Randall Goodgame, “The Biscuit of Zazzamarandabo” tells about a sightseeing expedition to see the fabled biscuit. The silly song will thrill and delight youngsters and their parents will get a kick out of watching it. The name alone is fun to say. Big Idea has worked their Veggie magic on many classic Bible tales and stories from literature. Our favorite side dishes have taken on everything from David and Goliath to The Lord of the Rings. They have added another gem to their library with Tomato Sawyer and Huckleberry Larry’s Big River Rescue. They have been able to keep their signature CGI characters while coming up with fresh ideas and new ways to present biblical truths. It’s a funny take on a classic story that stays true to the heart. Phil Vischer and the gang hit this one out of the park. It will be neat to see what they tackle next.
